I have two reviews to give for the exceptional service we've recieved from Higher Ground here in Chattanooga, on two separate dates and jobs. Last year, we had the bottom third of our driveway redone. To one side, a retaining wall constructed of ubiquitous but unreliable railroad ties was thoroughly decayed, holding back a large volume of earth at the base of the mountain our home is constructed on. We sought some quotes and decided Higher Ground was the best of them - they were able to answer all our questions while surveying the job for a consultation, understood what we were looking to accomplish, and provide excellent detail on what work would be done to get the job completed the right way. The crew arrived to begin work on the scheduled day, removing the old ties and a portion of unstable earth with no waste left behind, and carefully continued until the new wall was completed. The results are fantastic in all ways - the wall is extremely solid and well built, stepped perfectly to our property grade, and expertly drained to prevent any hydrostatic pressure from accumulating from behind - a pipe emptying into a nearly culvert discreetly fitted below. Exceptional work which has received complements on its curb appeal, the aesthetics are also exactly what we had envisioned. Fast forward to the second job, this one considerably more daunting. More railroad ties, but these along nearly the entirety of the front of our home, on a very steep grade surrounded by trees on three sides, and a lower deck on the fourth side. Accessibility for this job was minimal, and nearly all the work had to be performed by hand - removing the decayed railroad ties, excavating the unstable earth behind the decay, removing unwanted shrubs along the wall line - then installing proper drainage as before, backfilling with gravel and covering the top soil up to the lower deck at our request, then putting up the wall to match the one below. The earth held back was extensive and crucial, as it supports the home's foundation. Not only this, but water and sewage lines were in the path of the job underneath. This was the type of job other companies would not even attempt or provide a rational quote for. The job took a week to complete. But again, Higher Ground delivered exactly as we had hoped, and without any problems or last minute charges. The wall is, as the previous, perfectly constructed and uniquely shaped to fit the property - drained exactly as it should be, perfectly level and aesthetically beautiful. Collateral damage to the surrounding landscape was minimal. This is an amazing business to work with that is able to conquer and adapt to unique challenges confidently. Highly recommended and have already referred to close friends. We have their business sign proudly displayed by our drive, and will be using them again for the next two projects coming up.
